The Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has clarified his remarks on the proposed reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) uniform, stating that no fabric has been adopted or approved to replace the current uniform.
The clarification followed media reports that emerged after his appearance on Channels Television, where he mentioned Adire and Ankara while discussing ongoing reforms of the NYSC.
According to the minister, the fabrics were cited merely as examples of some of the proposals presented during consultations and should not be interpreted as an official decision.
“For the avoidance of doubt, yes, I mentioned Adire during the discussion. I also mentioned Ankara. My intention was simply to cite examples of some of the proposals that have been put forward in the course of our consultations. It was not an announcement that any particular fabric has been adopted or approved to replace the current NYSC uniform,” he said.
Olawande explained that the Federal Government is currently evaluating various options for the NYSC uniform, with emphasis on professionalism, a distinct national identity, durability, functionality, cost-effectiveness, and the promotion of national pride.
He stressed that no final decision has been reached on either the fabric or the design of the proposed uniform.
