IPMAN denies reduction in petrol price

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has denied a planned reduction in the Petrol pump price to N140 per litre. The plan was allegedly taken to encourage Nigerians travel to cast their votes. But, the National President of IPMAN, Sanusi Sari, who made the clarifications in Abuja yesterday, denied the reduction announced by the IPMAN National Controller, Operations, Mike Osatuyi earlier in the week. Osatuyi had said the pump price would sell for N140 per litre in IPMAN-member filling stations across the country from February 20 to 25 2019. Sari disclosed that the association has no intention to take any such decision without proper and adequate consultations with the regulatory government agencies. A statement in Abuja yesterday by the National Public Relations Officer of IPMAN, Ukadike Chinedu quoted Sari as saying: “IPMAN has not received any correspondence from Petroleum Product Marketing Company (PPMC), the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) that pump price has been reduced, or is to be reduced.” He said IPMAN feels the pains of millions of Nigerians who felt disappointed, as well as many who may end up being disenfranchised by the INEC’s sudden decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to reschedule the general election. He however added that they have not reached any conclusion on pump price reduction, stressing that the proponents of such information want to cause artificial scarcity of petroleum product. He commended the Federal Government and the NNPC for making petroleum products available all through the election period. IPMAN wished Nigerians well in their individual and collective efforts to perform their civic responsibility of voting on Saturday February 23 in choosing their leaders, the statement said. The association urged Nigerians to discountenance the rumoured price reduction, even as state Chairman of the IPMAN in Bauchi State, Rabiu Ahmed Baba said yesterday that the state would not obey any directive to reduce fuel price. Meanwhile, the National Executive leadership of Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has affirmed that there would be uninterrupted distribution of petroleum products during the polls.National President of NUPENG, Williams Akporeha, in a statement also notified its members to remain unfettered in discharging their legitimate duties so that the electoral process will be smooth and hitch-free. 361 Views

In her statement, Ezekwesili said, “Over the past three months, I have been in private extended talks with other candidates to make a coalition possible that would allow Nigerians to exercise choice without feeling helplessly saddled with the #APCPDP . In doing so, I have not hesitated to offer my willingness to step down my candidacy in order to facilitate the emergence of a strong and viable alternative behind which Nigerians can line up in our collective search for a new beginning. My commitment in this regard has been consistent and in consonance with my agreement, at the request of then aspirants under PACT in 2018, to supervise their internal selection process as an outside observer passionate about building this alternative force. Despite disagreements within the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria on these and other issues, I have decided that it is now necessary to show by action and example my determination on this issue by stepping down my candidacy and focusing on building the coalition once and for all. 377 Views

Anti- Pipeline Vandalism Campaign Receive Boost As Navy Captures Alleged Notorious Oil Pipeline Marauder!

Concerted efforts by the Management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and security agencies to combat the menace of oil theft and pipeline vandalism received a major boost with the capture of Mr. Shuaibu Ogunmola, an alleged notorious oil pipeline kingpin, whose illegal activities through the years, led to loss of millions of litres of products along the Lagos Atlas Cove strip in the strategic System 2B pipeline network. In a release today in Abuja, NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, said Shuaibu was captured recently at his luxury hotel in Ilashe community, along the Badagry Creek by officers and men of Operation AWATSE, a Joint Military Task Force on oil theft and pipeline vandalism anchored by the Western Naval Command, Apapa, Lagos. The corporation explained that investigations thus far revealed that Shuaibu had operated a thriving oil theft racket for decades, hacking pipelines in some island communities in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State along the System 2B network right- of- way. Providing details on the mode of operation of the Shuaibu-led syndicate, NNPC said the gang executed their illegal trade by digging boles metres away from the corporation’s products pipeline, which essentially serve as storage tanks for products directly siphoned from the lines at a hack point. These holes which are cast in drums receive products simultaneously from the labyrinth of pipelines connected to the trunk line directly linked to the ruptured NNPC line. The products so harvested are later scoped or transferred into jerrycans and drums and are sold to ready buyers who usually throng the beachside. From that point, the NNPC spokesperson stated, the products were shipped to Coutonou which has a firmly established market for smuggled Nigerian fuel. Commenting on the significance of the arrest of the notorious oil theft kingpin, Rear Admiral Obed Ngalabak, Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command, who also doubles as the Commander of Operation AWATSE, said the feat was the beginning of a well mapped out strategy to halt the menace of pipeline vandals across the zone. He explained that Shuaibu was the ultimate godfather of oil thieves in Ilashe and adjoining settlements where he consigned portions of his territory and offered operating rights to other thieves to operate and bring in returns at agreed rates and terms. Rear Admiral Ngalabak said investigation revealed that the Ilashe pipeline axis have been divided into three ‘oil fields’ by the criminals under the operating titles of Shuaibu Point, Dele Point and Bashiru Point. He assured that in the days ahead the culprit would be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution while efforts are in place to ensure prompt arrest of other members of the syndicate. Sam Otoboeze, General Manager in charge of the Group Security Department of the NNPC in his response, described the capture of Ogunmola as a victory in the fight against the nefarious activities of pipeline marauders. He said with the feat, criminals in the dirty business would now know that the game has come to an end. Otoboeze thanked the NNPC Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, for providing the much-needed support to the NNPC security team and the military in the last three years, enabling the corporation to sustain the tempo of the fight against the unrepentant oil thieves. 333 Views

First Lady, Aisha Buhari Blows Hot, Tackles APC!

As all the political parties are rounding up their primaries at all levels, the wife of Mr. president, Aisha Buhari seems to be very angry at what played out in some states where APC had it primaries. The First Lady, took to her social media page with thought provoking statement that shows her displeasure. Although this is a general problem as it’s peculiar to other political parties, below is Aisha Buhari’s Statement. “It is disheartening to note that some aspirants used their hard earned money to purchase nomination forms, got screened, cleared and campaigned vigorously yet found their names omitted on Election Day, these forms were bought at exorbitant prices. Many others contested and yet had their result delayed. Fully knowing that AUTOMATIC tickets have been given to other people. All Progressives Congress being a party whose cardinal principle is change and headed by a comrade/ activist whose main concern is for the common man, yet, such impunity could take place under its watch. Given this development one will not hesitate than DISSOCIATE from such unfairness, be neutral and speak for the voiceless. It is important for the populace to rise against impunity and for voters to demand from aspirants to be committed to the provision of basic amenities such as: 1. Potable drinking water 2. Basic health care ( Primary Health Care centers). 3. Education within conducive & appropriate learning environments. Let us vote wisely! LONG LIVE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!” 336 Views

Why Mama Taraba resigns as minister, quits APC

The Minister of Women Affairs, Aisha Alhassan has resigned her appointment in the cabinet of President Muhammadu Buhari. Alhassan, popularly called Mama Taraba was on Thursday disqualified to run for governorship election in Taraba State in 2019 under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). She stated her reasons in alleged letter below: I write with a lot of respect to inform Mr President of my decision to resign my appointment as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Your Excellency may wish to recall that I joined the APC in 2014 along with other members of the then new PDP, contested the 2015 governorship election as the flag bearer of the APC and to the Glory of God, you graciously nominated to be a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Your Excellency Mr President may wish to be reminded that I went through all the screening processes (security, medical and national assembly) as required by constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria after which I was cleared and approved as fit and proper for appointment as minister. Mr President, you therefore graciously appointed and swore me in as minister in November 2015. Mr President may also wish to recall that I wrote to notify you of my intention to again contest for governor of my state in forthcoming 2019 election under the umbrella of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and you again graciously blessed my intention and wished me well through a letter personally signed by Mr President which I appreciate and will forever cherish. Sir, I purchased the APC nomination forms and went for the party’s screening on Thursday, the 20th of September 2018 along with ten (10) other contestants for the governorship of my state, Taraba. I, with your permission, proceeded to Taraba on the 23rd of September 2018, to prepare for the presidential and governorship primaries then scheduled for the 25th and 29th of September 2018 respectively. While preparing for the primaries in Jalingo, I received with the shock and dismay that I was disqualified and not cleared to contest for the 2019 governorship by the National Working Committee of the party (APC). No reason was given for my disqualification. Mr President may wish to be also informed that I had always been a very committed and loyal party member and was at no time queried or admonished for any wrongdoing or unconstitutional behaviour. Up to the time of writing this letter, no reason is given by the party for my disqualification to contest election under the APC. It is for the above reasons sir, that I feel grave injustice was done to me by the party (APC), therefore my decision to leave the party and also resign my appointment as minister. If I am not qualified to contest election in the APC, I feel I am also not qualified to remain a minister in an APC government. May I at this point thank, appreciate and express my profound gratitude to Mr President for the honour, rare privilege and lifetime opportunity you gave me to serve under your great and credible leadership. I learnt a lot (especially patience) under your leadership. Working with you in the last almost three years was great and has immensely improved my leadership quality, I will remain forever grateful for that, sir. May I also use this opportunity to thank his Excellency, the Vice President, from whom I have also learnt a lot and my colleagues, other members of the Federal Executive Council, the SGF and cabinet office staff for their fellowship and support to me both as minister and personally. May God Almighty reward them all, Amen. While wishing Mr President continued good health and thanking you again for the opportunity given to me, please accept sir, the assurances of my best wishes  always and absolute loyalty to you as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Thank you Sir. 1,039 Views
