D\’banj Clears of Rape, Fraud Allegations

The AfroPop music star, D\’banj has survived the troubled waters as report has it that the Koko Master born Dapo Oyebanjo has been cleared of rape and fraud allegations by the Nigeria Police Force and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The police and the anti-graft agency gave \’Banga Lee\’ as he\’s also fondly called a clean slate in separate clearance reports upon completion of investigations with incontrovertible outcomes on the innocence of D\’banj. If you may recall, in 2020, the singer was accused of rape and the Inspector General of Police ordered an investigation into the allegation. In a report dated November 14, 2023, with case number CR:3000/X/FHQ/ABJ/SEB/T.1/VOL 18/284, and signed by ACP YY Abubakar of the Special Enquiry Bureau at the Force Criminal Investigations Department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the police said the matter was investigated but there was no evidence to substantiate the claim. “The allegation was investigated,” the report partly read. “The complainant, witnesses and suspects made their statements. The investigation was expanded across board but there was no prima-facie evidence, adduced facts or corroborative evidence to establish the offence of rape and sexual assault against the singer.” Also, sometime in late 2022, D’banj was wrongly accused of diversion of funds associated with the N-Power Programme of the Federal Government. However, in a separate outcome after its investigation, the ICPC said that D’banj was not guilty of any fraud allegation. 318 Views

BRICKLAYER BAGS LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 13 YEARS OLD GIRL

Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, Ikeja, on Wednesday, sentenced a bricklayer, Gabriel Awaye to life imprisonment for defiling a 13-year-old girl in his room. The judge sentenced him after finding him guilty as charged by the state government. The prosecutor had alleged that Awaye committed the offences on June 2, 2021, at Agbawaye Street, Command area of Agbado Oke-Odo in Lagos. His offences, according to the prosecution, contravened the provision of Sections 127 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. In her judgment, Justice Soladoye, said the prosecution proved the ingredients of the two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault against the defendant. The judge held that the survivor was lucid and unambiguous while giving her evidence before the court, noting that her testimony corroborated with other prosecution witnesses. “The prosecution witness one (the survivor) testified before this court that she was at her grandmother’s place when her friend, Rofiat told her that her sister sent for her. “The witness narrated that when she got to the place, she did not meet her sister, but saw the defendant who pushed her on the mat and sodomised with her. “The evidence of the defendant is laced with lies as he tried to detach himself from the offence by saying the mother of the survivor tried to have sexual relationship with him. To the mind of this court, the prosecution witnesses were truthful in their testimonies and their evidence were corroborated.” The judge, upon evidence before the court, found Awaye guilty of the two-count charge. “The survivor identified the defendant as the man who defiled her while she was 13 years old. The defendant is hereby found guilty and is sentenced to life imprisonment on each of the two-counts. “The defendant, by his audacious sexual recklessness, was not fit to be in the community of civilised people, and should be locked away for life. “He should have his name registered in the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register,” the court held. The Lagos State Domestic & Sexual Violence Agency reiterates the State\’s Zero tolerance stance and insists that there is help for survivors even as we remain committed to ensuring perpetrators are held accountable for their actions. 329 Views

On Facebook, Instagram monetisation policy, Shan George fumes, writes Zuckerberg!

Although many Facebook and Instagram users are unaware of the Zuckerberg\’s Meta\’s lopsided monetisation policy, few in the know preferred to discuss the issue in hush hush. While most Nigerian content creators are being intimidated and unarguably living at the mercy of middle-men (Non Nigerian agents), why are the Nigerians not eligible to personally Monitise their Facebook and Instagram accounts is a question begging for answers and a serious issue meant to be tackled by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC). Unlike Facebook and Instagram, owners of other social media platforms like YouTube, Twitter, Tiktok etc, allow users to monetise their accounts personally and payouts are directly to the individual bank accounts not the agents (Non Nigerian Middle-men). Why does Facebook/Instagram have to be different? However, below is the well penned letter by Nigerian ageless star actress, Shan George to the Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg that she shared on her Facebook and instagram pages. My name is Shan George, I\’m the President of AGFB (Association of Grandmas on Facebook) a movie producer and actress in Nollywood. I\’m very pained at the gruesome and expensive process young upcoming Nigerian content creators go through to get their pages monetised, even after creating loads of very awesome contents and meeting all Facebook requirements for their pages to get monetised, the reason being that Nigeria is not ELIGIBLE for monetisation. What I\’m about to bring to your notice may not be attended to maybe, based on the fact that few greedy digital business operators are hugely benefiting from this policy, while they sit at home, as these young creators toil day and night to create and upload contents without seeing the fruits of their labour, because most of these digital business operators are shylocks, creating a scenario of MONKEY DEY WORK BABOON DEY CHOP. A very unfair situation to these young content creators. In my opinion. Please help us make our money\’s worth, by Adding Nigeria to the COUNTRIES ELIGIBILITY FOR FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM CONTENT MONETISATION. We anticipate. Thank you. At last! Court Sentences Lagos Doctor to Life Imprisonment for Raping Wife\’s Niece

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence has pronounced a significant verdict. The case began on November 29, 2021, with the Defendant’s arrest based on a complaint by his wife on behalf of the prosecutrix. The case involved defilement and sexual assault charges. During the trial, 10 witnesses were called, and 9 testified. The judge meticulously examined the evidence, including witness testimonies, exhibits, and final written addresses submitted by the parties. Justice Oshodi outlined the charges against the Defendant, Dr. femi Olaleye, focusing on whether he had engaged in sexual acts with the prosecutrix against her will. The court considered the Defendant’s claim that the prosecutrix was not a child at the time, which was refuted by medical evidence indicating her age. The prosecutrix’s account detailed multiple instances of abuse, including fondling, forced oral sex, and defilement. The judge found her testimony consistent and corroborated by medical evidence. The Defendant’s admission of guilt to various individuals, including the DPO at Maryland police station, was a pivotal factor. Justice Oshodi dismissed the Defendant’s statements, citing falsehood. The Defendant was consequently sentenced to LIFE IMPRISONMENT for count 1 and 2 of the charge and that same should be run concurrently. The Court further an order directing that the name of the Defendant be entered in the name of sexual offenders in Lagos State. 281 Views
